Use an EPFO balance enquiry for a quick check and the member passbook for the detailed record. If an amount is missing, compare the correct member ID with your payslips and employer’s records. A blank screen alone does not establish either that money is lost or that everything is fine.
Choose the route that answers your question
| Route | Best use | What to have ready |
|---|---|---|
| Member passbook | Review contributions, transfers and interest entries | Your UAN, password and required verification |
| UMANG EPFO service | View the passbook through the government app | UAN and access to the registered mobile for verification |
| Missed call or SMS | Request a brief balance/contribution enquiry | The mobile number registered with your UAN |
| Employer’s exempted PF trust | Get the statement when the trust maintains your PF | Your employee and PF membership details |
Read the passbook for each relevant member ID
Go to the official EPFO Member Passbook service. Sign in using your own credentials and complete the verification shown. Select the relevant member ID; changing jobs can leave more than one employment record associated with your UAN.
Look at the contribution month, employee share, employer EPF share, pension contribution, withdrawals, transfers and interest entries. Download a dated copy if the service offers it. Do not add the pension contribution column to an assumed immediately withdrawable cash balance: pension benefits have their own rules.
If you use UMANG, choose the official government app and its EPFO service, then the passbook option. The EPFO employee booklet describes this route. Menu labels and sign-in prompts may change; avoid a third-party app asking to store your password.
Use the current missed-call number
From your UAN-registered mobile, give a missed call to 9966044425. EPFO’s service instructions say the UAN should be activated and any one of the bank account, Aadhaar or PAN should be seeded. The enquiry can provide the last contribution and balance; the call disconnects automatically and the service is free.
If there is no reply, check the registered number, UAN activation and the relevant account details. Service availability can also affect the result. Do not interpret a missing SMS as proof of a missing deposit.
Send the SMS from the registered SIM
The passbook portal lists 7738299899 for the SMS enquiry, using EPFOHO UAN <LAN>. For English, send EPFOHO UAN ENG. Here the command contains the letters UAN; use the language code in place of the language placeholder.
On a dual-SIM phone, select the SIM registered with EPFO. A brief reply is useful for checking the latest recorded position, but it does not replace the month-by-month passbook when you are investigating an error.
If contributions are missing, reconcile before concluding
- Check that you opened the correct employer/member ID and contribution period.
- Compare the payslip deduction with the corresponding passbook entry. A payslip deduction alone is not proof that the employer’s remittance has been posted.
- Ask payroll for the remittance details for the missing months and retain the response.
- Check whether your employer runs an exempted PF trust. EPFO’s employee booklet directs those members to their employer for the PF statement.
- If the discrepancy remains unresolved, raise it through EPFiGMS with the relevant records and retain the grievance number.
For an unavailable portal, note the date and error and try the alternate official route. Avoid repeatedly filing transfers or withdrawals just to make a balance appear. A job-change transfer problem and a website outage need different remedies.
Check interest as a separate entry
The Government’s 1 July 2026 announcement reported notification of an 8.25% EPF interest rate for financial year 2025–26. A declared rate is not evidence that a particular member’s entry is visible or correct.
Check the financial year and posted interest entry in your own statement. Ask EPFO or the relevant exempted trust about a discrepancy; do not simply multiply today’s closing balance by the annual percentage, because deposits and withdrawals during the year matter.
Keep UAN, Aadhaar, account details and passbook copies private. Submit them only through the official service or the employer process needed for your enquiry. No helper needs your OTP to explain a balance statement.
Reviewed on 27 October 2026 against EPFO service instructions and the notified interest-rate announcement. Removed unsupported routes and automatic assurances about missing balances.
