The FASTag Annual Pass is ₹3,075 for financial year 2026–27. Whether it saves money depends on the eligible plazas you use and the number of chargeable crossings you would otherwise pay for. It is not an unlimited pass for every toll road.
Confirm the current product
NHAI’s price announcement raised the fee from ₹3,000 to ₹3,075 from 1 April 2026. The pass lasts one year or 200 eligible crossings, whichever comes first. The official booking site identifies private cars, jeeps and vans as the eligible vehicle category.
Check the current price and eligibility on the official page before paying. Do not buy a supposed “lifetime” product merely because a seller quotes a proposal or an old news headline.
Check every plaza on your route
The pass terms limit use to eligible NHAI-operated National Highway and Expressway plazas listed in the app/website. A road’s name or the presence of a FASTag lane alone does not establish coverage.
NHAI’s FAQ explains that state/local-body plazas and parking can still charge the ordinary FASTag wallet. Before buying, write down the plaza names on your usual outward and return journey and check them against the eligible list.
Count crossings, not journeys
A unidirectional plaza passage counts as one crossing; returning through it counts again. In a closed toll system, the matching entry and exit count as one. Unused crossings lapse at expiry, and the FASTag then works as an ordinary tag.
For example, commuting through one covered point-based plaza each way uses two crossings per day. At that rate, 200 crossings last 100 commuting days, not a full year of unlimited travel.
Use your own bills for the savings calculation
At full use, ₹3,075 ÷ 200 is about ₹15.38 per crossing. That figure is not the right comparison if you will use only a small part of the allowance.
| Illustrative eligible toll cost without the pass | Crossings needed to exceed ₹3,075 |
|---|---|
| ₹50 per crossing | 62 |
| ₹100 per crossing | 31 |
| ₹150 per crossing | 21 |
These are arithmetic examples, not typical toll-rate claims. Replace them with the amount you would actually pay after any applicable return or local concessions. Exclude non-covered plazas. If you will exceed 200 crossings, include the ordinary tolls after the allowance ends when comparing the whole year.
Check the tag before payment
The current terms require a valid RC and a functional FASTag attached to the vehicle’s windscreen and mapped to its registration number. Blacklisted/hotlisted or unattached tags are ineligible; Paytm FASTags are also excluded. The pass cannot be reassigned to another vehicle.
Use Rajmargyatra or the NHAI website, confirm the registration number and save the payment reference. NHAI’s announcement describes activation within two hours; check that the pass actually appears active before assuming the next crossing is covered.
Keep a working wallet and watch expiry
Retain enough ordinary FASTag balance for uncovered charges and for travel after expiry. Check the remaining crossings and validity date in the official service. Reactivation is a separate step; do not assume automatic renewal.
Activated passes are non-refundable/non-cancellable under the current terms, but those terms allow refunds when payment succeeds and a pass is not issued because of a technical/system error. Keep receipts and use official support for that situation.
